Hardwood flooring
A hardwood flooring is durable, wear resistant and refinished when necessary. It comes in different forms like Oak, Cherry, Mongolian, Hickory and White ash. They are sturdy and extremely easy to clean. However, hardwood flooring surfaces may shrink or expand depending on temperature hence creating gaps and also may darken over a period of time.
Engineered wood flooring
Also referred to as composite wood, engineered wood is different from hardwood flooring in that it has got several layers laminated together. It is processed to have a distinct look. Composite wood is ideal for basements installation due to its resistant to effects of moisture than hardwood. However, engineered wood flooring can be sanded and refinished only once and is not as durable as hardwood.
Ceramic or porcelain tile flooring
It is the best flooring type for water proofing. The porcelain tiles are hygienic and easy clean for indoor and outdoor activities. It is stain resistant and is easy to replace. However, grout lines can be hard and difficult to clean and hence attract stains. Also, its rigid structure makes it unsuitable in the comfortable living area.
Carpet flooring
The carpet is made from synthetic fibres such as nylon, polyester and polypropylene. Of all the flooring options, it is the most versatile. It is simple to install, easy to replace, easy to clean and very hygienic. However, since it is made from synthetic material, it can not be refinished. It is also very slippery when wet and can cause accidents. The choice on the flooring type depends on consumer preferences.
